RECONOMY is an inclusive and green economic MSD program working in the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe.  This webinar will provide insights from RECONOMY’s efforts and the challenges faced in applying an environment and climate change lens at all stages of program development - from sector selection to program design and implementation. Chemonics International and the USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) held a webinar on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 to learn about market-based approaches for engaging the private sector in waste management, including lessons learned in supporting businesses to transition practices and services and specific ways that the circular economy can contribute to USAID’s localization priorities.

Increasing trade involves a number of things - trade agreements, expedited systems and processes, transparency and information flows, etc.  It also requires public good infrastructure - seaports, roads, airports, warehouses, etc. - which requires financing.

The 5th Anniversary of the ratification of the World Trade Organization Trade Facilitation Agreement demands reflection on the impact of the agreement thus far and the role trade facilitation plays in promoting sustainable and inclusive growth and more resilient societies. Implementation of the agreement to date shows progress but challenges remain, especially for developing and least developed economies.

On July 13, 2022, the USAID Women's Economic Empowerment Community of Practice (USAID WEE CoP) hosted a peer learning event, presented by WEE CoP members; it centered on  the World Bank’s  Women, Business and the Law 2022 report. Over 118 attendees from 31 countries joined this virtual event, including WEE CoP members and stakeholders.

On Thursday, June 30, a panel of local cooperative leaders and USAID staff from Haiti, Paraguay, and the Philippines discussed the relevance of cooperatives and their role in advancing USAID’s localization policy.

COVID-19 has renewed global attention around the importance of diversifying a country’s supplier base, thereby opening up an immediate opportunity to strengthen and focus efforts around local and regional manufacturing of health products.

The drivers of Migration from Latin America and the Caribbean region are no different than those in the other regions. Or are they? What are the root causes and fundamental drivers of migration: poverty, lack of jobs, search for better jobs, violence, political conflict, and/or climate change? What are the links between migration and development? What roles can the governments of sending countries and host countries play in promoting safe and regular migration? What roles can international organizations play? Can diasporas be leveraged to address the drivers of migration?

This webinar outlined the barriers and challenges that LGBTQI+ people face in the labor market and highlighted three successful programs to address them in Brazil, Kenya, and Cambodia. Discrimination, stigma, violence, and criminalization cause widespread exclusion from economic opportunities for LGBTQI+ people, ultimately lowering development outcomes and reducing overall economic potential of societies.

This panel discussion of the USAID/ESC Regional Climate Symposium will focus on social, health and economic impacts in the Eastern and Southern Caribbean region, including examining how COVID-19 has exacerbated impacts and how to strengthen resilience. Panelists will also discuss how climate action and efforts to promote gender equality and social inclusion can complement each other to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable groups.

Marketlinks explores how USAID programs can create more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient economies. This includes the ways in which we engage with the private sector and approach economic growth programming from the market systems and enabling environment perspectives.
