In 2019, USAID conducted a review of rigorous, causal evidence organized around common theories of change for growing small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Since then, additional studies on these outcomes have emerged, adding to existing evidence on different modalities of consulting, and beginning to fill important gaps in equity finance and women-led SMEs.

USAID Green Invest Asia, GIZ, and Sustainable Coconut Steering Committee (SCSC) will convene the 7th Sustainable Coconut Roundtable in-person in Makati City, Philippines, with the theme “Advancing Resilient and Sustainable Coconut Supply in Southeast Asia.” The roundtable, to be held on the sidelines of a Philippine Coconut Alliance meeting, convenes stakeholders actively involved in coconut supply chains with shared interests in sourcing and capturing investment opportunities in sustainable coconut and coconut oil value chains.

However, as trade facilitation initiatives reduce the time individuals and goods spend at border crossings, they can have disruptive effects on local border economies.

The 5th Anniversary of the ratification of the World Trade Organization Trade Facilitation Agreement demands reflection on the impact of the agreement thus far and the role trade facilitation plays in promoting sustainable and inclusive growth and more resilient societies. Implementation of the agreement to date shows progress but challenges remain, especially for developing and least developed economies.

Investors and businesses need clear, transparent, enforceable, and efficient rules to operate effectively in the marketplace. Research shows that entrepreneurship, new firm entry, existing business growth, and overall investment thrive most in stable and predictable environments, where there is trust among actors.
