Value Chain Finance the Hard Way: Lessons from Zambia (Screencast and Presentation)
Joe Dougherty presented, "Value Chain Finance the Hard Way: Lessons from Zambia." The seminar was the 39th installment of the Linking Small Firms to Competitiveness Strategies Breakfast Seminar Series sponsored by the USAID Microenterprise Development office. Mr. Dougherty's presentation highlighted the work done and lessons learned in USAID's Production, Finance, and Technology (PROFIT) project in Zambia. To begin, he provided background on Zambia and expressed that value chain finance, despite the literature available on the topic, is still a bit of a mystery. The aim of PROFIT is to improve smallholder and small business productivity; to work toward this goal, the PROFIT team engages in value chain analysis and market facilitation.
