This microNOTE provides a framework for organizing and examining SORBs—based on analysis of data collected on 234 institutions in 68 countries throughout the developing world—and highlights four key strategies: closure, continued government involvement, creation of new SORBs, and privatization. The brief also contains five mini-case studies from Peru, Brazil, Philippines, Ethiopia and Mongolia.
