The seminar highlights some of the key issues that will be addressed at this year’s conference, "Cracking the Nut: Attracting Private Investment to Develop Rural and Agricultural Markets.” Panelists Anita Campion of AZMJ and Eduardo Tugendhat of CARANA Corporation summarize some of the remaining barriers in attracting private investors to support rural and agricultural markets in developing countries. They present some of the ways in which they are cracking these tough nuts and solicit feedback from the audience. In particular, the panel discusses the following five themes and how the development community is evolving to better serve agribusiness market development:

  1. Expanding to New Agribusiness Markets and Opportunities
  2. Tapping New Sources of Supply
  3. Creating Effective Public-Private Partnerships
  4. Making Finance Work
  5. Leveraging Positive Government Support
