Cooperatives are uniquely positioned to champion their local communities, creating the foundation necessary for long-term development impact. They are created and owned by the communities they serve, empowering local people and institutions to own the planning, implementation and evaluation of their own growth and sustainable development.

USAID CATALYZE, a Private Sector Engagement (PSE) Hub project, is innovating new ways to engage with the private sector by speeding up the grant procurement process to mobilize capital towards underserved sectors, geographies, and populations globally.

Ecommerce is opening new opportunities for developing country micro, small, and mid-size enterprises (MSMEs) to engage in trade, grow, and create new jobs. The Alliance for eTrade Development II Activity (eTrade Alliance) is a Global Development Alliance (GDA) implemented in 2019-26 between USAID and 13 leading private sector partners, and supported by implementing partners Palladium and Nextrade Group, aimed to advance developing country MSMEs' use of ecommerce, including for cross-border trade.

This event will provide humanitarian and development practitioners, government stakeholders, private sector representatives and actors as well as donor agencies the opportunity to come together around the shared objective of enhancing inclusive private sector development and engagement in forced displacement settings. Through presentations, panel discussions and in-depth breakout sessions, this 3-day event will share lessons learned from different countries and situations.

USAID's Private Sector Engagement (PSE) Policy recognizes that private sector resources and capabilities are required to work at the scale needed to address development challenges effectively and sustainably. Mobilizing private capital has become an increasingly important part of this effort. USAID’s INVEST initiative has successfully engaged transaction advisors to mobilize over $800 million in investment capital for renewable energy, agriculture, financial services, and other priorities.

The USAID Women’s Economic Empowerment Community of Practice (USAID WEE CoP) held a learning event, “Preparing a Gender-Inclusive Power Sector Workforce for the Future,” on Thursday, June 29th, from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. (ET).

Featuring perspectives from the CEO of an agribusiness in Uganda, a leader in Honduras’ BDS and finance ecosystem, and implementers at Gatsby, ACDI/VOCA, and MarketShare Associates - this webinar will unpack several practical examples where firms, ecosystem actors, and programs are strengthening firm and system-level learning capacities.

The cost of cow feed is 60 to 70 percent the cost of producing a liter of milk in Kenya. For dairy farmers, it means that using improved forage varieties and nutritionally balanced rations makes a genuine difference to their income. What’s more, the higher likelihood of drought and high temperatures in eastern Africa — an effect of climate change — underlines the need for a stronger forage market system.
