Designed financing models to draw the first international private sector investments into the post-conflict, fragile state of Somalia. Developed innovative business models for structured contracting between producers, their value chains including input suppliers and domestic and international buyers, and investments into new technologies and renewable energy. Designed and implemented investment and competitiveness platforms and networks including technology and finance packages targeting women and youth businesses and entrepreneurs. Provided investment facilitation, business planning, training and technical assistance to MSMEs and entrepreneurs working closely with banks, MFIs and private funds.
Improved investment and business enabling environments and advised on investments and related laws and regulations working closely with federal and state ministers and International Development Agencies (IDAs). – Appointed by the Finance Minister to set up Gargaara, an investment fund targeting capital of $100m. Led development of Somalia’s investment response to the Covid-19 crisis to channel finance to banks and MFIs hit by a collapse in remittances, closure of foreign exchange bureau and lack of access to international payment systems to finance international trade and imports.
