SHOPS Plus project conducted a longitudinal study with 3 of the 16 grantees of the HANSHEP Health Enterprise Fund, a challenge fund that identified and supported private sector solutions to address family planning and other health priorities in sub-Saharan Africa under the SHOPS project from 2013 to 2015. The study examined how grantees have increased access to family planning products and services since the end of the fund, and its findings document the value of investing in private sector social enterprises as a means of increasing access to family planning.

mSTAR/Bangladesh: Technical Assistance to USAID's ANGeL project

This report details technical assistance provided by mSTAR/Bangladesh to IFPRI to support them to use mobile money to disburse training allowances under the Agriculture, Nutrition, and Gender Linkages (ANGeL) pilot project, being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture. The ANGeL project disburses training allowances to 3,125 ANGeL beneficiary households across 16 districts in rural Bangladesh for attending trainings on agriculture production, nutrition knowledge, and gender sensitization.

Workshop on Digital Payments for AIRN Members through Agent Banking

mSTAR/Bangladesh received a technical assistance request from the Agro-Inputs Retailers Network (AIRN), which is supported by USAID’s Agro-Inputs Project, in February 2017 to support them to explore DFS adoption among AIRN members. In connection with that request, mSTAR/B conducted two technical workshops for AIRN members in March 2017 about using agent banking for digital payments. Md. Ataur Rahman, mSTAR/B Team Lead, facilitated the workshop sessions.

Although governments offer a range of social protection mechanisms, many OVC households remain vulnerable due to additional social, economic and psychological factors. Furthermore, social insurance, a systematic framework that allows a group of individuals to collectively spread their risk (Pitzer 2003, 3), typically excludes low-income households employed in the informal sector―leaving them vulnerable to shocks and prone to make risk-averse decisions that lead to sub-optimal development outcomes.

RVC is working through eight partners and the intervention areas are mostly in the south and southwest of Bangladesh.

mSTAR/Bangladesh: Technical Assistance to Save the Children

Save the Children requested technical assistance from mSTAR/Bangladesh to provide light-touch support to prepare their partners under the USAID-funded Reading Enhancement for Advancing Development (READ) project to be able to explore the potential of using mobile payments to pay volunteer honorariums. Their initial request was received in November 2015, and TA was conducted in February 2016. The time difference between receipt of the request and provision of TA was the result of coordinating schedules for a technical workshop.
