On August 29, 2007, Sebastian von Stauffenberg presented “Social Performance Tools: Focus on Bolivia” from MicroRate's work done on MFI social ratings. The seminar was the 16th installment of the Microfinance Learning and Innovations After Hours Seminar Series sponsored by the USAID Microenterprise Development office.

Von Stauffenberg discussed the difference between credit ratings and performance ratings. He also talked about the growth of the microfinance industry along with the growth of funding vehicles for MFIs. The second part of his talk focused on social performance--how it's different from social impact, how you can assess it, and what the ratings mean. He tied this all together with a brief example of social performance tools when applied to ProMujer in Bolivia.
