This case presents the experience of the Tanzania Association of Microfinance Institutions (TAMFI) in its efforts to support its members and improve their social performance management and reporting practice. Through its 12-month Social Performance Start-up Fund project - designed to bring much-needed social investment to the market through improved social performance management (SPM) and reporting - the network took a strongly a needs-driven approach to its member support, starting with a survey of current member SPM practice. Importantly, TAMFI leveraged the opportunity of this project to improve its own SPM — becoming more focused on understanding and meeting its members’ needs.
