Joan Parker presented, "Maximizing the 'Value' of Value Chain Programs in Conflict-Affected Environments." The seminar was the 32nd installment of the Linking Small Firms to Competitiveness Strategies Breakfast Seminar Series sponsored by the USAID Microenterprise Development office.

Dr. Parker reviewed 14 cases of value chain programs in conflict-effected environments. She concludes the value chain approach can bring improved employment and income to these populations if there is a viable market opportunity. Moreover, she emphasized the importance of linkages such as relationships and trust to contribute to the success of the value chain approach.
