On April 18, 2011, USAID’s EGAT Office in Washington hosted a panel discussion on “Financial Consumer Protection and Financial Literacy: Good Practices in Developing Countries and the West Bank and Gaza Case.” The panel included presentations by Sue Rutledge, World Bank Coordinator on Consumer Protection and Financial Literacy, and Timothy Nourse, Chief of Party of USAID’s AED-led ESAF program in Palestine, which is conducting a national consumer protection and financial literacy initiative as part of its overall emphasis on financial inclusion, helping to put in place better consumer protection regulations, build the capacity of regulatory authorities to supervise financial institutions, and implement a large-scale public consumer awareness campaign.
