The FIELD-Support LWA is an 8-year cooperative agreement between the Microenterprise Development office at USAID (EGAT/PR/MD) and AED. FIELD-Support is flexible mechanism that has included multi-year cooperative agreements, short-term field-based pilots, quantitative and qualitative research studies and evaluations, and targeted country assessments and program design assignments for Missions. Over the last 6 years, FIELD-Support has worked in 25 countries, and managed more than $270 million for a range of USAID Missions and Operating Units.

FIELD-Support’s broad portfolio of staff and projects works with USAID to support the full spectrum of evidence-based development activities, from conducting field-based sector assessments, to supporting program design and technical evaluations, and through the direct implementation of multi-year cooperative agreements that serve the strategic objectives of USAID and advance the state-of-the-practice of microfinance and microenterprise development.

In 2010, FIELD-Support's activities continued to focus on four key programmatic themes:

  • Extending the reach of microfinance and fostering more inclusive financial systems;
  • Facilitating broad-based economic growth by upgrading and improving the competitiveness of value chains in which enterprises participate;
  • Strengthening livelihoods and food security for vulnerable households and marginalized groups, including youth, women and people affected by HIV/AIDS or natural disasters; and
  • Advancing strategies to address economic growth and energy poverty.
