This study on Options, Management and Enforcement of Collateral for Microfinance Loans in the West Bank and Gaza (WBG) provides a detailed review of collateral options and related management and legal enforcement issues in WBG. The report identifies a number of constraints to the enhanced use of available collateral opportunities within microfinance and concludes with a series of recommendations for overcoming these at the retail, meso and macro levels. The report was commissioned by the Small and Microfinance Assistance for Recovery and Transition (SMART) Program of the Academy for Educational Development (AED). A two-year program, SMART was designed to preserve the microfinance institutional infrastructure in the West Bank and Gaza (WBG) and assist microfinance intermediaries develop to adopt effective strategies and management practices during the present emergency in order to lay the foundation for a transition to sustainable growth.
