Portuguese language version: The Southern Africa Assessment of Trade Opportunities and SPS Challenges within the maize, soya and groundnut value chains in Southern Africa took place from June to August 2016 as a task order under the USAID/Leveraging Economic Opportunities (LEO) project. This study involved field missions to four Southern African countries—Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, and Zambia—from June 22 to July 14, and extensive background reading of prior studies.

This study is one of three regional assessments carried out in East, Southern, and West Africa regions to identify key SPS-related constraints to trade within priority Feed the Future value chains, in order to gauge opportunities for potential SPS-related investments. A French version is available for the West Africa report.
