Dr. Donald Snodgrass, Principal Development Specialist at Development Alternatives, and Institute Fellow Emeritus at Harvard University presented “Assessing the Impact of USAID-Kenya's Tree Fruit Projects.”  The seminar was the 6th installment of the Linking Small Firms to Competitiveness Strategies Breakfast Seminar Series sponsored by USAID’s Microenterprise Development office.

Dr. Snodgrass presented an overall framework for understanding how the private sector development community addresses the issue of impact assessment and how interventions are designed accordingly, defining impact assessment and explaining the rationale behind its use.  He highlighted a few challenges of the process--including cost, political economy, and measurement obstacles--and concluded by discussing his AMAP BDS project work in Kenya, touching on progress in understanding impact assessments in the avocado, mango and passion fruit markets.
