This primer on impact assessment is the first in the Impact Assessment Primer Series to be produced by the Private Sector Development (PSD) Impact Assessment Initiative. The PSD Impact Assessment Initiative is an activity funded by USAID under the Accelerated Microenterprise Advancement Project (AMAP) to promote impact assessments of new generation PSD programs. The Primer Series is targeted primarily to persons within USAID who have responsibility for or who are otherwise interested in assessing the impact of PSD programs. It should also be of interest to other donors, policymakers, and practitioner organizations who wish to promote private sector development. The Primer Series will address the range of planning, methodological, logistical, budgetary, and other issues that arise in conducting impact assessments of new generation PSD programs.
