Worldwide remittance flows continue to increase, while showing shifting trends. For example, while in the U.S.-Mexican remittance corridor growth was negative, remittances to Central America, South Asia, and other regions in the world continued to increase. We highlight several elements contributing to this dynamism: new business partnerships, internet and mobile remittance solutions, and institutional programs to sustain and leverage diaspora remittance projects. This issue's country profile is dedicated to Moldova, where remittances play a major role: at 37 percent, in 2007 Moldova's remittances as a percentage of GDP were the highest in the world. In this issue, we also explore the case of highly skilled migrants' remittances, considering it to be a very important thread in the current discourse on the development role of diaspora.
