Join members of the research community, development practitioners, and USAID staff at the USAID Higher Education Global Evidence Summit: Engaging Higher Education for Change through Employability, Innovation, and the Private Sector, which will take place virtually over three weeks in May 2022.

Lightning talks and presentations from diverse and cross-sectoral presenters on topics related to innovation, employability, and private sector engagement will be interspersed with keynote sessions from USAID Administrator Samantha Power, USAID Chief Scientist Ticora V. Jones, and other leaders in Higher Education and global development.

The Summit will take place on May 3 & 4, May 10 & 11, and May 17 & 18. Event programming consists of two half-days over the three weeks, with four hours of programming during the morning (EDT) each day. The agenda for each week can be viewed online.

Week 1 will focus on Innovation and the role of higher education in strengthening national and regional innovation ecosystems. Keynote sessions include Alexis Bonnell from Google discussing how curiosity is a survival skill, and USAID Chief Scientist Ticora V. Jones moderating a panel on catalyzing innovation ecosystems. Research and Practice Sessions will offer an opportunity to learn about the latest evidence and research on how USAID is working with higher education institutions to foster innovation. Lightning Talks followed by live Q&A will give attendees a chance to dive deeper into these topics. Week 1 will also feature student-led innovations courtesy of the William & Mary Global Innovation Challenge.

Week 2 will focus on Employability and higher education institutions' ability to deliver locally-relevant curricula that not only provide graduates with subject matter expertise and skills but also prepare them for a wide range of future careers. Join us as USAID Administrator Samantha Power kicks off the week with a fireside chat on the impact of USAID programming on youth employability with a recent college graduate.

Week 3 will focus on Private Sector Engagement. Join us for Research and Practice Sessions about private sector collaboration and lessons learned from projects on the ground. Then attend exciting plenary sessions such as “Conversations Outside the C-Suite” for an enlightening discussion on what works and what doesn’t in private sector collaboration with higher education institutions. The final day of the Summit will explore higher education’s role in crisis and conflict settings and how higher education institutions can strengthen democracy.

We hope you can join us for this first-of-its-kind event to learn more about how higher education plays an important role in helping USAID achieve its goals not only in education but across multiple sectors such as agriculture, market development, and democracy and governance.
