Information

graphic with all webinar detailsThis year, World Refugee Day on the 20th of June fell under very peculiar circumstances. The world’s attention has turned towards taking stock of the massive consequences of the pandemic and on defining recovery responses to get economies, enterprises and labour markets back on their feet. Refugees and displaced people are rarely mentioned in the recovery discourse, however, the crisis has disproportionally affected them.

How can the recovery response take into account the specific needs of refugees and host communities? What role can be played by the humanitarian-development-peacebuilding nexus in the immediate and long-term post-COVID-19 response?

To brainstorm on these questions, the ILO Approach to Inclusive Market Systems (AIMS) team and UNHCR Refugee Livelihoods team are organizing "A Market-Based Approach to Post-Covid Recovery in Forced Displacement Settings" webinar.

This webinar is organized under the framework of the ILO-UNHCR Joint Action Plan on advancing employment opportunities and decent work for refugees, other forcibly displaced persons, and national workers. Panelists will share their reflections and first-hand experiences from the field on how they are adapting their market-based approaches and programmes to contribute to the post-COVID-19 jobs and livelihoods recovery for refugees and host communities.

Main speakers:

  • Nadja Nutz, AIMS Technical Officer (PROSPECTS), ILO Lebanon
  • Robert Nyambaka, Senior Livelihoods and Economic Inclusion Officer, UNHCR Ethiopia

With introductions from:

  • Fernando Martinez Cure, AIMS Officer, ILO HQ
  • Ziad Ayoubi, Head of Livelihoods Unit, UNHCR HQ
