2010 SEEP Annual Conference: USAID Feed the Future Lunch

SEEP ConferenceThe 2010 SEEP Annual Conference got off to a great start today with several Member Day activities. Of particular interest to many of the attendees was the lunch session highlighting USAID’s Feed the Future Initiative.

Feed the Future is the U.S. government’s global hunger and food security initiative, and it represents a departure from the way USAID has promoted agriculture and food security in the past. The FtF framework is inclusive of agriculture productivity, private sector growth, nutrition, environmental sustainability, gender, and the chronically poor; and it takes a country-led approach. For microenterprise development practitioners, the initiative represents an opportunity to address key issues of microenterprise and poor households.

The presentation speakers included Susan Bradley, a Senior Policy Advisor in USAID’s Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance (DCHA), and Jackie Claxton, a Trade and Private Sector Advisor at USAID. Both have worked extensively on the Feed the Future initiative.

As Jackie mentioned during the presentation, the contact for private sector parties looking to partner with USAID & Feed the Future is ftfbusinesshub@usaid.gov
